During an inspection, we will determine the unique needs of your home and work with you to develop a detailed plan. The plan may include a few or all of the next steps tailored to your home.
The first step in the restoration process is to prepare the surface of the logs back to their bare/natural state. This most commonly consists of media blasting. Media blasting uses an air compressor to forcefully blow crushed glass at the home to strip the old stain. This step can be messy but is an essential part of the process. For stubborn areas, homes sometimes require a chemical stripper that we apply to the home and then power-wash off, melting the old stain/paint away with it.
Next, log rot is addressed. When rot reaches more than 50% of the log, replacing the whole log is typical. This takes careful craftsmanship while considering structural support, load weights, and aesthetic matching.
We then wash and treat the home with preservatives (Borate). This is an important step as Borate repels wood eating pests and protects from fungi.
Now the fun begins. Witness the transformation as we bring your home back to life! We are here to help you choose the right product, color, and sheen for your home.
After applying stain and clearcoat, we apply chinking to ensure your home is properly sealed. Chinking is the flexible material sealing the space between log courses. It is designed to stretch and move with the logs as they settle over time. This is essential to prevent log rot by ensuring your home is completely sealed from the elements. Chinking can become part of the log home's aesthetic. Sometimes this step is necessary before blasting so glass doesn't get inside the home.
The finishing touches include painting gutters and window trimmings to have your home looking brand new. We also service decks and other structures upon request.
